The Pairing

Sesshoumaru and Kikyou... You must be wondering why in the world would someone support the very idea of this pairing possibility. Well, if you must know, there are lots of reasons, actually, but since I have listed them all in detail on my other website, I’ll try to summarize them into a shorter text.

To put it simply, Sesshoumaru’s and Kikyou’s personalities are quite alike. They both present themselves as indifferent and serene to the point of being cold, but on the inside, they can be rather kind and compassionate, and their soft spot for children stands as proof of this. Also, they both despise Naraku and seek his demise, and both have unresolved issues with Inuyasha, and they claim that they will take the hanyou’s life, but neither of them does so when given the chance.

That doesn’t mean one is the mirror image of the other. On the contrary, they do have quite a few opposite aspects. For instance, Kikyou can be rather passionate at times, not thinking twice before plunging into action, while Sesshoumaru is the impersonation of coldness, always thinking his steps carefully over and over. Also, in spite of her attitude, slightly disturbed sometimes, Kikyou is a miko and her essence is naturally good, while the taiyoukai Sesshoumaru is bound to follow darker courses.

Seeing as they are so much alike, they would have a tendency to attract each other, for people with common interests usually get along quite well, and maybe that ‘understanding’ could lead to something else. However, their differences would be sure to keep the fire of their relationship scorching and angry sparkles flying all over the place, but they would eventually create a balance between the two; the best qualities of one would lessen the flaws of the other, and this way none of them would dominate over their lover. Furthermore, Rin could really use a human female company, and Kikyou and Sesshoumaru do look gorgeous together. ^^;

And what kind of relationship could they possibly share? Well, there’s a chance that Sesshoumaru might have met Kikyou when she was still alive and maybe developed feelings for her, but seeing as she chose Inuyasha, the taiyoukai began to hate his half-brother as well as all humankind as a result of his ‘heartbreak’. The two could have also met randomly on one of their endless journeys, learned about their similar goals and formed some sort of alliance that should be kept as a secret so that they could use it as a trump-card on their final battle against the hanyou fiend.

So many speculations, so many theories… That’s exactly why we come up with fanfics centered on those two characters, for not only are they really interesting to explore, but also because there are just so many possibilities for a history between them. Personally, that was my main reason for starting Unraveling Melody, other than my utter obsession over Kikyou, Sesshoumaru and the Inuyasha series as a whole; all the characters are deep in a way or another, but none of them compares to the unsolved mystery that is the undead priestess and the taiyoukai lord.

The idea of this pairing is not very well accepted among fans of Rumiko Takahashi’s newest series, especially due to the enormous amount of hate directed to the misunderstood miko who is constantly seen as a rock on everyone’s shoes. We do not care, though. Of course, we would most likely appreciate it if more people would see the beauty of this couple and realize how perfect they are for each other, but seeing as we probably won’t be seeing that happen in an immediate future, we shall settle for having our opinions respected; that’s the least one could get, in the first place. Fortunately, I’ve been witnessing growing support towards this idea, and that gives me plenty of fuel to keep my own fire up and burning!

I’ve tried to keep my explanations as effective and concise as humanly possible, and coming from me, the ever-so-meticulous one, that is major achievement. However, should you have the urge to read the longer, overly-detailed version of my musings, please visit Hidden Hearts and check under Info – Coupling sub-section. It should be there for you. ^_^
