Jerry at the Brooklyn Academy of Music

On November 20 and 21, The Jim Henson Legacy was involved in an event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.  Jerry was there introducing some Henson shows on Sunday the 21st.

Correction:

You may have heard, here or elsewhere, that Jerry's Sesame Street characters have been recast.  This is not the case.  While he will no longer be performing his classic Muppet characters, he will continue to perform all of his characters on Sesame Street.  He "may still do some [other] work with The Jim Henson Company but that will be determined at a later date."

Fraggle Rock on DVD

The first Fraggle Rock DVD was released July 21, 2004 by HIT Entertainment, and is being sold at Wal-Mart exclusively.  It includes the first two episodes of Fraggle Rock, "Beginnings" and "Wembly and the Gorgs," plus a bonus third episode, "Let the Water Run."  According to HIT, more episodes on DVD are coming in the spring of 2005, and season sets are due by fall 2005.

Countdown with Keith Olberman

The Count appeared on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olberman on March 31, 2004. He helped to celebrate the show's one year anniversary, and talked about Sesame Street's 35th anniversary.

Disney Buys The Muppets

Disney and The Jim Henson Company announced on February 17, 2004, that they have entered into a deal in which Disney will acquire the classic Muppet characters, as well as the Muppet Babies and Bear in the Big Blue House franchises. The Henson Company will retain all other assets including the Fraggles and its Creature Shop. Disney announced plans for a new Muppet TV series and specials under the strategic advisement of Henson.

Jerry at The Museum of Television and Radio

On Wednesday, October 15, 2003, Jerry Nelson took part in a presentation at the Museum of Television and Radio entitled "Muppet Rarities: The Unseen Work of Jim Henson." Craig Shemin, Muppet writer and Secretary of The Jim Henson Legacy, presented rare pieces from Jim Henson's work including commercials and outtakes, as well as  Our Place, a summer replacement series, and a pilot entitled  Land of Tinkerdee.  Members of Henson's creative team, such as Jane Henson and Jerry, took questions from the audience and discussed their experiences with Henson.

A Veritable Muppet Party Cruise

Jerry Nelson and Dave Goelz were the featured entertainers during the July 2003 transatlantic voyage of the Queen Elizabeth 2.  The renowned cruise ship set out from Southampton, England, on July 16, and arrived in New York on the 22nd.  In the course of the 7-day cruise, Jerry and Dave performed such characters as Floyd Pepper, Robin, Gonzo, Dr. Strangepork, Lew Zealand, and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew.  Muppet Show producer Martin Baker presented a Jim Henson documentary, and puppet builder Jane Gootnick spoke about the Muppet creation process.  Also on board were the creators of  Chicken Run and the award-winning Wallace & Gromit.
